Welcome to the Office of the Superintendent

Dr. J. Thomas Morton is the Superintendent of Schools and Elaine Vovchansky is his Assistant. The Superintendent's  office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is located in the Mohawk Avenue School, 18 Mohawk Avenue (next door to the Sparta Library).   You can call the Superintendent at 973 - 729-7886 or e- mail him at tmorton@sparta.org.  The Superintendent's Office is responsible for the following:

  • Processing new employee paperwork
  • Scheduling appointments with the Superintendent of Schools
  • Processing Request to Publicize Activities Form (MS Word) All flyers that non-profit organizations would like to distribute to the students must be reviewed and approved by the Superintendent.
     
As Superintendent, Dr. Morton is responsible for the hiring of all professional and supportive staff.  All vacancies are posted on line in the Positions Available section. The Employment Opportunities section provides general employment information and links to our employment applications. 
 
If you need information about obtaining a teaching certificate, you can access the New Jersey Department of Education at their website, http://www.state.nj.us/education/.  The Sussex County Office of Education can also answer questions about teacher certification.  You can contact them  at 973 - 579-6996, Ext. 2.

The Superintendent is also responsible for making the decision for school closings, early dismissals and delayed openings.
